WELCOME!

Seriously epic singing starts here. Join Naya in 2026.

We’re opening our doors to passionate choristers who live for the rush of an amazing performance and the joy of high-quality singing with others. If that sounds like you, we’d love you to book an audition and experience what it’s like to sing with Naya.

If you’re unable to make the audition dates listed, please email us to organise an alternate time.

Our next 18-month season launches in February, with a calendar full of music that will both challenge and inspire us. Highlights will be our three-day retreat – where we’ll connect, recharge, and refine our sound – and our signature Light & Sound concert, a spectacle that fills the stage with colour and harmony. Every moment is about creativity, community, and the magic that happens when great voices come together.

Coming up for Naya in 2026-27

The season usually evolves a little as the year progresses, and as opportunities present themselves. Here are all the relevant events we are aware of so far.

Welcome BBQ: Saturday 21 February, 5pm

First Rehearsal: Thursday 26 February, 7pm

Photoshoot: TBA (normally a weekend in April)

Retreat: Dates to be advised. The retreat is usually held at Nanga Bush Camp. This will be a weekend away to get to know everyone better, and hone our skills as we build towards our first performance. The retreat is a vital part of the season… not to mention a lot of fun!

Busselton Songfest: We usually participate in this festival, but not confirmed at this stage. This is usually a weekend in June, and is another great excuse to spend a few days away together, singing and hanging out.

Mid-Season Concert: Date to be advised. This will probably be held in September 2026 in the Beasley Auditorium at Perth Modern School.

End-of-Season Concert: Date to be advised. This will probably be held around May or June 2027 at the Performing Arts Centre at All Saints College.

Rehearsals

Many Naya choristers will tell you that rehearsals are the highlight of their week. They're fun, challenging, and full of laughs. That being said...

We consider rehearsals to be “sacred”. Naya aims to be an outstanding ensemble, and rehearsals are the foundation on which everything about the choirs sits - musically, culturally and organisationally. Please consider your commitments for the coming year. We expect that if you are offered a place and accept it that you are committed to being at every rehearsal, rain or shine. The only exceptions are if you are unwell or have a previously-booked performance with another group. If you have work commitments, reach out and let’s see how we can make it work.

By default, Naya performs all music from memory. This means that on a weekly basis you will be asked to memorise music for the following week's rehearsal. If you do not know your music by the appropriate time, you will be asked not to perform in the relevant performances.

Rehearsal night: Thursdays
Time: 7pm–10pm
Location:
Beasley Auditorium
Perth Modern School
90 Roberts Rd, Subiaco

What's in the audition?

There are 3 parts to the audition:

  1. Sing a solo piece of your choice

  2. Sing a canon (provided by us) with a member of the audition panel

  3. Sight reading

Solo

What you choose to sing for this part of the audition is completely up to you. Choose a song that shows off your voice. The piece can be in any style. You can sing unaccompanied, accompanied (by yourself - the audition room will have a piano) or you can bring a backing track. If you choose the latter, please make sure there are no other lead vocals on the track.

If you’re stuck for inspiration for what to sing, below are some suggestions for each voice part. Feel free to change the key to suit your voice.

Tenors

  • Folk: Danny Boy (trad. Irish)

  • Classical: Sleep - Ivor Gurney

  • Musical Theatre: You’ll be Back (from Hamilton)

  • Contemporary: All of Me - John Legend

Basses

  • Musical Theatre: Stars (from Les Misérable)

  • Folk: Loch Lomond

  • Classical: Panis Angelicus - César Franck

  • Contemporary: Can’t Help Falling in Love - Elvis Presley

Sopranos

  • Contemporary: Rise Up - Andra Day

  • Classical: O Mio Babbino Caro - Puccini

  • Folk: Siúil a Rúin (trad. Irish, can sing English text)

  • Musical Theatre: Seasons of Love (from Rent)

Altos

  • Contemporary: Gravity - Sarah Bareilles

  • Classical: Tu mia speranza - Handel

  • Music Theatre: I Dreamed a Dream (from Les Misérable)

  • Folk: Wayfaring Stranger

Canon

Sing a canon chosen by us with a member of the audition panel. You can download this year’s canon here.

You don’t need to memorise it. We’ll have a copy on the music stand in the audition, but you’re also welcome to bring your own copy if that’s helpful.

Sight Reading

The purpose of this part of the audition is to test your ability to read a new piece of music that’s put in front of you, as will happen regularly in Naya rehearsals. Not everyone in Naya is a sight reading pro. Just give it your best shot!

You can sing it to “do do”, “la la”, solfa, letter names… whatever works for you.

Below are some examples of the sight reading used in previous auditions. They start simpler, and get progressively harder. Very few people will ace the last one on each page, so don’t panic (we have to keep the pros on their toes! 😉).
